Ontario’s PC government is training the next generation of family doctors and health-care workers to help connect more people to convenient, high-quality care close to home.
Applications are now open for the new Ontario Learn and Stay Grant – Medical Education program, backed by a $220 million investment to support more than 2,000 future family doctors.
Through the program, Ontario will cover tuition, books and other direct educational costs for eligible medical students who commit to practising as family doctors anywhere in the province for at least five years after completing their studies.
The expanded program could help up to two million people become or remain connected to primary care, supporting our PC government’s plan to connect everyone in Ontario to a family doctor or primary care team by 2029.
This builds on the success of the Ontario Learn and Stay Grant, launched in 2023 to help train health-care workers for communities that need them most. Since then, our PC government has invested more than $182 million to support the education of more than 13,300 future nurses, paramedics and medical laboratory technologists.
By removing financial barriers for students and training more family doctors and health-care professionals here at home, our PC team is building the highly skilled health-care workforce Ontario needs for the future.
We’ll keep investing in Ontario’s health-care workforce, expanding access to family doctors and making it easier for people across the province to get the care they need, when and where they need it.
